Founded in April of 2019, Open the BlackBox is dedicated to supporting Shiori Ito and rebuilding communities in crisis and advocating for victims of sexual violence.
Open the BlackBox named itself after the hidden manner in which it says such crimes are investigated and tried in Japan. Shiori came to the trial with a purpose to open the BlackBox which she confronted with when she filed a criminal complaint and found problems hidden under the course of a civil lawsuit.
Shiori said, "There are many elements that can be described as a 'black box' in investigations and judicial proceedings related to sex crimes because nothing is disclosed to the victim. I hope through the civil lawsuit that details of those elements are brought to light and that it serves as a catalyst to think about the current judicial system."
We Open the BlackBox began our activities with a strong determination and resolution to open the blackbox together with Shiori in the course of this trial.
We ask for your support.
SUPPORT THE TRIAL
Four years have passed since the sexual assault against Shiori Ito.
She has been fighting almost entirely by herself and covering court-related expenses.
Shiori is fighting a trial to determine the damage and seek compensation. The defendant's attorney is requesting an apology advertisement as well as issuing a counterclaim for 130 million yen. In order to speak up with the victims, we thought this trial was paramount. We decided to pay close attention to the trial and provide substantial support. We would like to multiply the voice of those who want to support her.
Although there have been multiple supports offered to her, Shiori did not want to take it as the sole beneficiary while there are many other victims of similar assaults. The “Open the Black Box” has been working with Shiori to find ways to support the victims who speak out to be not subjected to criticism, loneliness, and silence.
This is #MeToo group, as well as #WithYou to Shiori who spoke out with # MeToo.
Let's speak out together.
